How it works

From the couch to the pump, in four steps.

Gazo does one thing, and does it well: show you where gas costs the least around you, then take you there.

Pick your fuel and your radius

Regular, premium or diesel, within 5, 10 or 25 km. With your permission, Gazo uses your location to find the stations around you. Rather not share it, or looking somewhere else? Search a city or a postal code.

At the top of the screen: the best price in your radius and how far below the average it is. Below it, every station.

Cheapest on top, for real

Stations with a recent real price come first, from cheapest to most expensive. Next come those with only an estimate or an old price, sorted by distance, then those with no price.

Every price shows its source (official, reported, entered by the station or estimate) and its age. You always know where you stand.

Tap “Go”

The button opens Google Maps, Waze or Apple Maps (on iPhone) with the station's exact coordinates. You pick your app the first time, Gazo remembers.

The button is everywhere: on every row of the list, in the map bubble and on the station page. One tap, and you're off to the cheapest.

Back home, one second for everyone else

If you come back to Gazo shortly after stopping at the station, the app asks one question: was the price right? You confirm or correct it.

Outside Quebec, that's how prices stay fresh. In Quebec, official prices come from the Régie and can't be edited.

The badges

What each label means

In the app and on this site, every price carries one of these labels. Only the first three are real station prices.

Official (Régie)

Price reported by the station to the Régie de l'énergie du Québec. It's the official price, read by Gazo every two minutes.

Reported

Price seen at the pump and reported by a driver. After 72 hours, it's no longer treated as a real price.

Entered by the station

Price entered by the operator of a verified partner station, outside Quebec. Valid for 72 hours, like a report.

Estimate: regulated maximum price

Maximum price set by the area's regulator (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island). A benchmark: the station can sell for less.

Estimate: official average

Official average of the nearest market (Ontario, Statistics Canada). A ballpark figure, never ranked among real prices.

The rules

What never changes

  • Sorting by price is sacred

No station can pay to move up the list. Partners get a badge and a richer listing, never a better rank.

  • An estimate stays an estimate

It's the same for every station in an area: it doesn't tell you which one is cheapest. So it's never mixed with real prices.

  • A reported price ages fast

After 72 hours, a reported price no longer counts as a real price. The age of every price is always shown.

  • Wacky prices are filtered out

At most 10 reports per hour per device. When an area has enough recent prices, a report more than 25% away from the median is rejected.

  • Official prices are off limits

In Quebec, prices come from the Régie de l'énergie. Nobody can change them in Gazo, not even us.
