Privacy policy

Effective October 1, 2026

Gazo is designed to work without an account and with as little personal information as possible. This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, who we share it with and how to exercise your rights. It applies to the Gazo mobile app, the Gazo website and the partner station portal.

1. Person in charge of the protection of personal information

Gazo is operated by VSP TECH, in Quebec (Canada). The person in charge of the protection of personal information is the head of VSP TECH. For any question, access request or complaint: [email protected].

2. Information we collect

We never ask for your name, email or phone number to use the app.

Anonymous device identifier: a random code created when the app is installed. It contains no information about you or your phone; it is used to prevent abuse and to link your settings, favourites, alerts and subscription.
Location: with your permission, the app sends your location (or the city you searched) to get nearby stations. It is used only to answer the request: it is neither stored nor written to the server logs. Exception: if you create a price alert (Gazo+), the alert's point and radius are stored, with your consent, until you delete it.
Price reports and confirmations: station, fuel, price, date and time, device identifier.
IP address: it is immediately turned into an irreversible fingerprint (hash) to enforce the reporting limit. The plain IP address also appears in the server's technical logs.
Advertising (free version): Google AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier, your IP address and ad interaction data. Your consent is requested in the app (Google's consent management platform) and you can change it at any time in the settings.
Gazo+ subscription: payment is processed by Apple or Google. We only receive the transaction identifier, the product and the subscription status, never your payment details.
Notifications (alerts): on iPhone, the device's Apple notification token, to send you alerts.
Partner stations: for operators who create an account, name, business email, phone number, claimed station, photos and information published on the listing. Payment is processed by Stripe; we never see the card number.
Support: the content of the emails you send us.
Website: the site uses no cookies or tracking tools. The server keeps technical logs (IP address, page, date, browser).

3. Why we use it

We do not sell any personal information and we do not use it for any other purpose without your consent.

Show stations and prices around you, and guide you to the chosen station.
Publish community-reported prices and check their quality (outliers, abuse).
Provide Gazo+: verify the subscription, send alerts, keep your favourites.
Show ads in the free version, according to your consent choices.
Manage partner station accounts, billing and statistics.
Keep the service secure and answer your requests.

4. Automated decision

A price report may be rejected automatically if it differs by more than 25% from the median price in the area, or if the reporting limit is reached. You can write to us to learn the reasons for the decision and ask for a person to review it.

5. Retention

Location of a search: not stored.
Reports and confirmations: 24 months, then anonymized (the device identifier is removed) for price history.
IP address fingerprint linked to reports: 30 days.
Server technical logs: 14 days.
Alerts, favourites and notification token: until you delete them in the app, or 12 months without using the app.
Gazo+ subscription: during the subscription, then 12 months.
Partner accounts: during the relationship, then accounting records are kept 7 years (tax obligations).
Support emails: 24 months.

6. Disclosure to third parties

We only disclose information to the providers the service needs, bound by contract to confidentiality:

Google (AdMob): ads in the free version and consent management.
Apple (App Store, notifications) and Google (Google Play): purchases, subscriptions and notification delivery.
Stripe: payment of partner station subscriptions.
Server host: hosting in Canada (provider to be confirmed).

7. Disclosure outside Quebec

Google, Apple and Stripe may process information outside Quebec and Canada, including in the United States. Before any such disclosure, we conduct a privacy impact assessment and make sure the information receives adequate protection, as required by Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector.

8. Security

Traffic between the app, the website and the server is encrypted (HTTPS). Access to the server and administration is limited to authorized people. IP addresses linked to reports are hashed. In the event of a confidentiality incident presenting a risk of serious injury, we will notify the Commission d'accès à l'information and the people concerned.

9. Your rights

You may at any time request access to your information, its correction or deletion, withdraw your consent (for example to personalized ads or to an alert), and receive your information in a structured, commonly used technological format (portability). Write to us at [email protected]; we reply within 30 days.

To delete the data linked to your device (reports, confirmations, alerts, favourites, notification token), use “Delete my data” in the app settings, or send the device identifier shown in the app settings to [email protected]. We process requests within 30 days and confirm the deletion. For a partner account, write to us from the account's email address.

Uninstalling the app also erases the device identifier: remaining data can no longer be linked to you.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may file a complaint with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (cai.gouv.qc.ca) or, outside Quebec, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).

10. Minors

Gazo is meant for drivers and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information about a person under 14 without the consent of the person having parental authority. Purchases and personalized ads are not intended for minors.

11. Changes

We will post any change on this page, with its effective date. If a significant change affects how your information is used, we will tell you in the app.
